Fun – St. Vital Photography

Fun is good.

-Dr. Seuss

We always have fun time at St. Vital mall in Winnipeg. It has a nice play area for kids, an extensive food court, an arcade, a movie theatre,  and lots of shopping options for me 🙂

The play area is one of Harrison’s favourite places to go during the winter months, and Chloe enjoys watching the children. During our last few visits to the mall, I took some photos with my iphone, and although the quality of the photos is not nearly as nice as with my Canon 6D, I’m happy to have the memories archived.

Everyone has a mobile device these days, making it easy for parents to capture photos of their children at any time. This option is convenient, but lacks in quality. For quality, timeless photos of you and your family, it’s best to hire a photographer. Contact me today to book your session!

Legoland – Winnipeg Photographer

Play is the work of childhood.

-Mr. Rogers

Harrison loves building, and really likes Duplo and Lego. While we were in Arizona, we spent a few hours at Legoland and had a good time. It was a fun adventure with an interactive ride through a dark tunnel, several Lego build and play zones, a 4D cinema and a climbing apparatus.

Here are a few photos from our time there 🙂

Disguise – Oakbank Family Photography

When a dog is in your life, there is always a reason to laugh.

-Alphonse de Lamartine

Italian Greyhounds are an interesting breed. They have a unique appearance and are quite humorous. We have two IG’s: Polo and Sadie, and today I put newborn bonnets (from my prop collection) on them, and had a good laugh. They were fairly cooperative – I used roast beef to bribe them to sit long enough to snap a few photos!

Pets are family, and it’s important to have photos of them. I’m always happy when clients bring their pets along for family photos. When you book a session, let me know if you’d like your pet included!

Both of the bonnets used were purchased from Etsy: The lamb bonnet is from cheekychumy and the skunk bonnet is from RockNWool.

Technology – Oakbank Child Photographer

Yes, kids love technology, but they also love Legos, scented markers, handstands, books, and mud puddles. It’s all about balance.

-K.G. (First Grade Teacher)

I love this quote, and totally agree with it. My husband is passionate about technology and I remember two years ago when he wanted to buy Harrison an ipad… I was a little unsure. It is so important for children to play and interact with their environment, but it is also important for them to learn to adapt to this new technological world they are growing up in.

I have learned that the ipad can be an educational tool, rather than just a form of entertainment. If parents take the time to play educational games with their children, teach them to use the technology properly, it can be a useful teaching tool.

My husband recently introduced Harrison to “Mario Run” for the ipad, and he was as just as excited as Harrison, lol, as it was similar to games he played on Nintendo during his own childhood. And, although it is not “educational”, Harrison is learning about winning and losing, setting and achieving goals, practicing hand-eye coordination, taking turns and having a fun; all while bonding with his daddy when they play together 🙂

Our world has changed immensely since my husband and I were children, and technology is going to be part of my children’s childhood. We are choosing to embrace it, while keeping in mind the importance of balance.

The technology I use for photography is amazing; my camera, lens’, computer, iphone, editing software, and so much more. Photography has evolved and has changed the way we use photos in our everyday lives. Regardless, photos hold our memories and will always help us remember the special times in our lives.

Contact me today to book a session. I would love to help capture your special memories 🙂

Curiosity – Oakbank Baby Photography

Curiosity is the most powerful thing you own.

-James Cameron

Chloe’s curiosity is growing daily. She is not mobile yet, but wiggles her way around to reach items she’s interested in. Today while I was busy in the kitchen, I grabbed a few pot lids for her to play with, and she decided she needed to help herself to more! Harrison came over to see what she was up to, and ended up taking the pot lids to use as shields (the incredible imagination of a four year old). I gave Chloe some measuring cups to play with instead, and she found them equally interesting.

She was content, curious, and happy, so I took the opportunity to take some photos. I love how candid they are, and the memories they document are priceless.

Don’t pass up the opportunity to document your own memories with photos. Contact me to book a session today – I can help 🙂

Valentine’s Day – Winnipeg Photographer

I love you everyday, not just on Valentine’s Day.

-Anonymous

Today is Valentine’s Day, and I decided to search my home for hearts and photograph them with my macro lens.

A hobby I enjoyed, before having my children and had actual free time lol, was scrapbooking. I love crafts, art, and photos; and scrapbooking was the perfect combination of the three. I found some really pretty paper in my scrapbooking paper collection and it inspired me to use them in a new creative way.

I truly believe that photos should be printed and enjoyed… rather than hidden in the digital world. Scrapbooking is a fun way to keep your memories intact.

I include prints with my session packages, and am always happy to assist you with printing additional photos. Contact me to book your session today!

Hearts – Oakbank Baby Photographer

Sometimes the smallest things take up the most room in your heart.

-Winnie the Pooh

Hearts are all around us, especially around Valentine’s Day; and when you have a baby girl 🙂 Today I dug through Chloe’s closet, came across some cute items with hearts on them, and took some creative photos of them.

I am always happy to try new angles and compositions when taking photos, as this adds to the artistic element of each image. When you have a session with me, I always strive to capture the best angles and compositions to best suit your images.

Take a look at my maternity, newborn, baby, child and family galleries to see my artistic style. Contact me to book your session, and we can work together to create beautiful images for you to cherish forever 🙂

Cupid – Oakbank Baby Photography

Sorry I missed. You won’t get kissed.

-Cupid

I had so much fun with this photoshoot 🙂  My daughter Chloe just turned 10 months old, and made the perfect, chubby, cherub! It took me some time hunting at Michael’s and Fabricland in Winnipeg; collecting the supplies I needed to make my vision come alive, but it all came together nicely and I’m in love with the finished product.

The items I made for this session are welcomed additions to my collection of handmade photography props. I would love to used pieces from my collection at your next session. Contact me to book a date today!

Skyzone – Winnipeg Photography

We didn’t realize we were making memories, we just knew we were having fun.

-Anonymous

Today we celebrated Harrison’s 4th birthday at Skyzone Trampoline Park, in Winnipeg. He had a great time jumping, playing and interacting with his friends. I hope that he will remain friends these children for years to come.

The party flew by with time for jumping, pizza, cake, gifts and goodie bags. Our party host, April, was excellent. When we arrived, I noticed that she looked familiar, after speaking with her, I realized that her mom was the photographer who took Harrison’s newborn photos!

It was my first time at Skyzone, and although it was quite far from our home in Oakbank, it was definitely worth the drive. These are a few of my favourite photos from the party.

If offer Cake Smash sessions to celebrate first birthday’s, contact me to lock in a date 🙂

Weathered – Winnipeg Photographer

Weathered: Worn, stained, or warped by or as if by exposure to weather; seasoned.

-Dictionary.com

I love the look of weathered, or distressed, wood and metal. My home is filled with items that suit this style and it is always my go-to when hunting for home decor… and now, for photography props 🙂

It’s even better when the items are authentically vintage or antique, but many replicas are also beautiful. Today I took close-up macro photos of various items around my home, and I really like how the show the weathered details.

Take a look at my galleries to see how I’ve incorporated this style in various sessions: maternity, newborn, baby, child, and family. Contact me to book your session today!
