Family portrait – Oakbank Photographer

Every child is an artist.

Picasso

I love the series of images today. My son drew pictures of our family, and although I may be biased, they are pretty great!

Rather than storing a growing pile of artwork he has done, or attempting to glue it all into a scrapbook; taking photos of them is the perfect way to remember his creations.

I plan to frame the family portrait he created today, because it tells a story about this time in our lives (just as a photo would).

If you would like family photos taken, please contact me 🙂

Sleeping babe – Oakbank Family Photographer

When my baby is sleeping that’s when I think, “Wow. I made that.”

Maria Jose Ovalle

I love watching my children sleep, and always wonder what they are dreaming about. It gives me a moment to reflect on the miracle they both are, reminds me to slow down, and enjoy the small things; All their little features, breathing and warm embrace.

Snuggling my babies will always be a fond memory of mine (and my husband’s). Today I captured our daughter shortly after she fell asleep in his arms. I made an effort to photograph all the tiny details I want to remember from right now, at this time in her life.

I’d love to take photos of your baby as a newborn (and beyond), so you too, can cherish these precious memories 🙂

Birthday boy – Winnipeg Child Photographer

I constantly go between wanting you to be my baby forever, and being excited about all the amazing things you’ll do in this life.

Unknown

My baby boy turned four today!  I decided to have a photoshoot to celebrate today, and was surprised to find all of my props at a little store here in Oakbank.

I love how the photos captured his personality. He is spunky, energetic and confident 🙂

Contact me if you’d like to book a birthday session for your babies and children.

Big lollipop – Oakbank Child Photography

Sometimes you need to talk to a three year old so you can understand life again.

Unknown

Today Harrison celebrated his last day of being three years old, with a big lollipop 🙂 Three has been an eventful year for everyone. Harrison has grown to be a caring, smart, sensitive, confident and determined little boy. He is a wonderful big brother to his sister Chloe, and loves making her laugh with his goofy nature.

Being a photographer has allowed me to stay home with my children, and I am so grateful for that. Everyone says, “they grow up so quickly” and “enjoy it because it won’t last long”.  I’ve learned to love each milestone and accomplishment they achieve; rather than dwelling on the fact that they aren’t going to be “this little forever”.

I have made a great effort to document our family’s special days (and not so special days) – to keep our memories alive. I encourage you to do the same! I’d love to photograph your special memories and offer maternity, newborn, baby, child and family photography packages. Contact me to book a session 🙂

Genes – Winnipeg Baby Photography

A daughter is one of the most beautiful gifts this world has to give.

Laurel Atheron

I am so grateful to be mommy to two beautiful, healthy children. They are each their own little person with different features and personalities. It is amazing to watch them learn and grow every day and it is neat to see little glimpses of my husband and I within them.

The most common question I am asked is if my husband has red hair – because both of my children have red hair, and my hair is blond. Much to everyone’s surprise, the answer is, “no, his hair is light brown… But I was born with red hair, and my grandmother and his great-grandmother were redheads.”

It is always fun to see which features resemble whom and everyone has an opinion lol. Today I decided to dress my daughter up in one of my own baby outfits (that my parents have kept as a keepsake for the last 35 years). I was able to find a photo of me wearing the outfit – which was perfect to use for comparison. I can see a few similarities, but personally think she has more of my husband’s features.

My photo is on the left. What do you think?

If your family has held onto something you, or your spouse, wore as a baby, I’d love to photograph your baby wearing it a your own baby’s session 🙂

First time ice skating – Oakbank Photographer

Life is slippery. Here, take my hand.

H. Jackson Brown Jr.

Today, our son Harrison, tried ice skating for the first time. He enjoyed it and was sad when the time ended. The indoor arena here in Oakbank is great, and offers an hour of  free skate time every Sunday. The arena was warm enough for us to be comfortable, without too many layers, so I took pictures of him on this little adventure (without freezing my fingers!)

I love watching him experience new things, and wonder what his interests will be as he grows. The candid photos I took today will remind us of this “first” in his life and that makes me happy. A family activity or adventure always make family photo sessions more genuine and memorable. I’d love to capture you and your family doing something fun together 🙂

My flower girl – Oakbank Baby Photographer

I know a girl, she puts the colour inside of my world.

– John Mayer

After seeing a photograph of a baby wearing a flower bonnet, I was smitten, and had to recreate it with my daughter Chloe. I found an online tutorial, went to Michaels to get supplies, and made three different bonnets!

I love how these images turned out. The softness of the backlighting was perfect, and my daughter’s expressions are priceless. The bonnets I made are great for Sitter sessions, and I would love to capture your little one wearing one 🙂

Keepsakes – Winnipeg Photographer

Keepsake: an object of sentimental value.

It is amazing how an object can trigger our memories. They can take us back in time and help us remember. Both of my parents are fairly sentimental and have held on to many family items (perhaps too many!). Today I decided to photograph some of the items they’ve kept as keepsakes.

These items were given to my parents in the hospital, from family and friends, following the birth of my brother and I. They are now considered “vintage” and although I obviously do not remember the time they were gifted to my parents, they’ve been kept safely tucked away in storage…to preserve the memories associated with them.

Photos are the most precious keepsake one can treasure. Not only do they trigger memories of significant times in our lives, they capture moments in time. Now that we are living in a digital age, it is so easy to backup our photos to the computer and let them remain there…tucked away in storage. I declare we print our favourite pictures, display them in our homes, and create albums that can shared with generations to come!

I offer prints and an array of keepsake items with each of my Newborn, Maternity, Babies & Children, and Family packages. I’d be more than happy to help you showcase your memories 🙂

Bubbles – Winnipeg Child Photographer

May all your troubles be bubbles.

– Unknown

Candid and carefree… these are my favourite photos to capture. Today I took photos of my son in the bath; drinking the water, sliding around, blowing and catching bubbles. He loved the big bubbles best, was pretty determined to catch them, and when he did, he’d say, “I catched it”. He’s turning four next week and I hope his carefree, curious and confident personality follows him for years to come.

The candid nature of today’s photos, and my final editing choices, truly represent my son at this time in his life. I love how the black and white images are dramatic and have a different feel than the softly coloured ones. I take the time to edit each individual photo and decide what style best represents the captured moment.

I would love to photograph you and your family, and guarantee that the same time and care is given to your own images after a session with me 🙂

Macro flowers – Winnipeg Photographer

Mere color can speak to the soul in a thousand different ways.

Oscar Wilde

I love colour, and usually prefer a softer pallette, for photographs and my macro lens helps create some beautifully soft images. Today I took photos of the flowers used for yesterday’s milk bath, and played around with some interesting crops while editing.

It is inspiring to see how nature combines colour. This inspiration can be used when planning your own photo sessions; From the clothing you choose for your maternity or family session, to the props used for your newborn or baby session. I am always willing to suggest a pallette that works for you…one that will ensure that your photos will look perfect hanging on your walls 🙂
