The Hendrens: Maternity Session – Oakbank Maternity Photography

A baby makes love stronger, the days shorter, the nights longer, savings smaller, and a home happier.

-Unknown

I love this series of images! They feature my neighbour, her beautiful family, and home. They include both posed and candid photos – telling a story about life for them at this moment, waiting for the arrival of their baby.

At home maternity sessions are a nice way to capture you and your family in a familiar setting. If you are wanting an in-home lifestyle maternity session, on location, or in-studio session, contact me today to book your date. I recommend having your session when you are around 34 weeks, while you are still fairly comfortable and your belly is nice and round 🙂

Features – Winnipeg Baby Photography

Little hands and little feet, make our life so very sweet.

-Anonymous

Everyone tells you “they grow up so quickly”, and it is the truth! In the blink of an eye your tiny baby grows from newborn to toddler. This is what is happening in our family at the moment. Chloe will be a year old next month – and I still can’t believe it. I feel like her first year flew by more quickly than my son’s first year… maybe because having two children is BUSY 🙂

I am so happy that I took this series of photos several months ago. Today I decided to create a photo grid of these images; highlighting her tiny features. I would love to create a similar keepsake for you, documenting your baby’s tiny features, to help you remember this time in your life. Contact me today to book your newborn and baby sessions.

He loves me, he loves me not – Oakbank Baby Photography

Oh, dear little daisy, come whisper me softly,
And tell me a secret I’m longing to know.
His name will lie hid in your golden heart ever;
Oh, say does he love me, and whisper it low.

—Burton Egbert Stevenson

Now that Chloe is crawling, she has entered a whole new world…and so have I (lol). She now has access to just about everything around her; which included my flowers the other day. I was taking photos, and she was curious, so I passed her one of the daisies. She began pulling the petals off which reminded me of the “He loves me, he loves me not” game I used to play with my friends when I was young.

This series of photos were taken with my macro lens, because that’s what I had on my camera at the time. It was tricky to compose the images due to the magnified nature of that lens, but I am still happy to have these cute memories.

Sometimes the best photos are unplanned. It is nice to have a mix of candid and staged photos, as they capture a moment in time differently.

Children are always curious about nature and it is nice to take photos of them exploring their environment. There are wonderful locations in Winnipeg and the surrounding areas, that offer beautiful and interesting backgrounds for photos. As your photographer, I will provide you with a variety of images that best represent your moments in time. Contact me today to book your sessions!

Chloe: Winnipeg Baby Photography

Her eyes sparkle because she sees magic everywhere.

-Anonymous

Chloe’s baby blues are beautiful. I may be biased, being her mom, but we get complimented on them often 🙂 My son Harrison also has blue eyes, but are starting to become more green – like mine. I guess time will tell whether Chloe’s eyes will stay this shade of blue, or change like her brother’s. Regardless of the colour of their eyes, there is nothing as special as gazing into your child’s eyes and feeling overwhelming love.

When taking portrait shots I always attempt to focus on my subjects eyes. They tell a story and show emotion. These photos of Chloe were taken with my macro lens, while she was playing, and nailing the focus and composition was challenging!

I was happy to capture these few images of my daughter and would love to take photos of your baby.  In addition to my newborn packages, I offer several photo packages for older babies. If you live in Winnipeg, or any of the surrounding areas; contact me today, and book the session you are looking for!

Practice – Oakbank Baby Photography

Just keep trying, it’s all you can do.

-Anonymous

Chloe has been “almost” crawling for a few weeks now. She gets into the proper position, rocks back and forth a little, then sits back down on her bum (or slides flat onto her tummy). She manages to scooch from one place to another, and I know it’s just a matter of time before she figures out crawling and then I will have to baby-proof the house!

I remember being concerned with my son Harrison, not reaching certain milestones “on time”, and now again, with Chloe, I find myself wondering why she hasn’t mastered certain skills yet. That being said, I know that every child is different and moves at his/her own pace; and that’s okay!

This is the reason I offer my Sitter session for babies 6-8 months old; rather than at one specific age. Contact me today to book your baby’s sessions – I offer packaged deals 🙂

Shoes – Oakbank Baby Photography

Give a girl the right shoes, and she can conquer the world.

-Marilyn Monroe

I love shoes, boots and sandals. They complete an outfit, come in so many different styles and colours, and always fit 🙂 When I found out I was pregnant with Chloe, I bought her shoes (of course). She is not yet walking, but that hasn’t stopped me from finding her adorable footwear. I keep them in a basket in her room and she loves to dig through them, play with them, and chew them lol.

Today I took a photo of her, amongst her little collection of shoes. It’s hard for me to donate her little clothing when she outgrows things, and having a photo like this is the perfect solution to remember these items without hanging onto everything.

When you have a photo session with me, I encourage you to dress your children in clothing you love – so you too can remember how little they were and their cute little wardrobe!

Contact me today to lock in a date, and feel free to bring an outfit change to your session.

Playful – Oakbank Child Photographer

A playful path is the shortest road to happiness.

-Bernie Dekoven

I love the playful nature of children, and pure happiness, that can be captured when they are engaged in play. Thankfully, I’m developing a large collection of  photos like these of my children. Their candid moments represent life as it was at these exact moments. This “lifestyle” type of photography is natural and tells a story.

If you would like a candid lifestyle session, contact me today 🙂

Hard light – Oakbank Baby Photographer

Let your light shine.

-Anonymous

Today I took photos of Chloe in the sunlight shining thorough my bedroom window. Hard light is challenging, and it creates strong shadows, but after editing them in black and white I think they turned out beautifully.

This has been our first year, in our home here, in Oakbank. As time passes, and the seasons change, I am learning where and when the sun light shines through the many windows throughout the house.

I do not use a flash, and rely on natural light. When you book a session with me, I take into account the time of day, and the type of light available,  to ensure you receive the style of photos you hope for.

Heirloom – Oakbank Baby Photography

Preserve your memories, keep them well, what you forget you can never retell.

-Louisa May Alcott

Today I took photos of Chloe wearing the Christening gown my mom wore in 1955! I am thankful that my grandma kept this gown, and a pair of my mom’s baby shoes. My grandma also kept a photograph of my mom wearing the Christening dress – and although it is a little blurry – it still tells a story. It is amazing these items have been passed through generations of my family; and now I get to share them with my daughter.

I look forward to showing Chloe the photos I took of her today (wearing the items her grandma wore over 60 years ago), when she is old enough to understand how special it was. I love how photos capture our memories and help us remember the past.

Let me help you preserve your family memories. Contact me today to book a photo session 🙂

Fun – St. Vital Photography

Fun is good.

-Dr. Seuss

We always have fun time at St. Vital mall in Winnipeg. It has a nice play area for kids, an extensive food court, an arcade, a movie theatre,  and lots of shopping options for me 🙂

The play area is one of Harrison’s favourite places to go during the winter months, and Chloe enjoys watching the children. During our last few visits to the mall, I took some photos with my iphone, and although the quality of the photos is not nearly as nice as with my Canon 6D, I’m happy to have the memories archived.

Everyone has a mobile device these days, making it easy for parents to capture photos of their children at any time. This option is convenient, but lacks in quality. For quality, timeless photos of you and your family, it’s best to hire a photographer. Contact me today to book your session!
